For Frankie, the piano is no everyday thing. It is magic and it helps her. Behind it she can go reaching between the grey parts, finding all the hidden colours the keys can help her make. She’s drawing in a way, going to the well looking for the melody of story, of song, struggle, and most importantly courage and life. She has grown up looking for this language, studied and studying its inner workings, guided by teachers and peers alike, finding that music really is at the heart of everything.

In her birthplace and stomping ground of Christchurch City NZ, she gigs regularly as a solo artist, not afraid to sing AC/DC after Norah Jones in any old bar. Her favourite gigs are the spirit raising shows with The Eastern where she adds her signature honky tonk blues piano flavour, channelling the spirit of the great rock n roll rebel Jerry Lee Lewis. She has played with the jazz and blues misfits of Ireland, Jimmy Smyth and Mary Coughlan.

For 10 years now, Frankie has been involved in the Christchurch music scene, as a singer-songwriter, accompanist, band leader and session player. In any setting, the piano, along with her soulful voice helps her to tell stories, speaking from the heart of things. For Frankie, music is survival. When she plays music, she is no longer afraid.
