Stephen McDaid and Morvern Tuathlaith

Donegal-born guitarist and songwriter Stephen McDaid has been a part of Christchurch's music scene for over 20 years.

His debut album Trail Maps appeared in 2022 inviting comparisons to Richard Thompson, Davy Graham and Mark Kozelek. It’s an 11-track acoustic affair showcasing a myriad of tunings and disciplines on his signature Babicz Identity guitar.

Only just having finished High School, Morvern Tuathlaith brings her unique sound back to Live at the Point for a third time.

With influences as varied as Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and The War on Drugs she’ll perform a set of original songs displaying a sophistication beyond her years.

Her debut album is scheduled to appear in 2025 so the Diamond Harbour audience will be receiving an exclusive airing of her material ahead of its release.

Tess Liautaud and band

The music of Franco-American singer-songwriter Tess Liautaud can not be easily defined. It hangs in the balance of her voice, warm like honey; it carries a depth of raw emotion, delivered with melodic grace and country soul.

Her songs are easy listening, in that Jackson Browne, dreaming of Laurel Canyon, Americana sort of way and together with her band Liautaud creates a sound steeped in classic folk'n'country rock'n'roll, this is music that will grow roots in your heart and lift you up, the way it is supposed to.

“Her new album Blue Mind, is an assured work of rootsy Canterburycana (a genre title we're workshopping), featuring familiar Christchurch cohorts like Adam Hattaway, Elmore Jones, and Jessie Shanks, the shining star here is Tess Liautaud's warm and heartful voice, riding high over her fantastic new set of songs". - Flying Out

The Eastern

The Eastern are a string band that roars like a punk band, that swings like a gospel band, that drinks like a country band, that works like a bar band, that hopes like folk singers, and sings love songs like union songs, and writes union songs like love songs, and wants to slow dance and stand on tables, all at the same time. Whether roaring as a thunderous seven-piece band or swinging the loud lonesome sound as a smaller combo and having played over 2000 shows in their storied 15 year ramble, The Eastern can hold it down in all settings for all comers.

The Eastern have played in every nook and corner of the good isles of New Zealand, and have broken strings and dented floors in parts beyond, Australia, Europe and the United States. From Papanui to Portland, Shirley to Switzerland, they’ve seen more than their share of stages, street corners and bars but treat any opportunity to hold it down and play as a gift and one they’d be fools to waste. They play like they mean it, like it’s all they know how do…because they do and it is.
